Maternal and child health project in Léogâne and Gressier in Haiti
The PROSAMI project aims to improve basic health care services and health facilities that are accessible to pregnant women, newborns and children under five in the Communes of Léogâne and Gressier, located in the Ouest Department, in Haiti.
Following a three-pronged approach, this initiative offers support to local health authorities, health facilities and communities in order to increase the utilization of reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) services.
In more specific terms, the PROSAMI project contributes to strengthening the capacities of:
- Three health facilities (the Léogâne Mother and Child Centre, the Gressier Health Centre and the Darbonne Health Centre) so they can offer Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) and Pediatric Services
- The management team of Léogâne’s District Health Unit (UAS) so it can better fulfil its role as a coordinator and supervisor of RMNCH interventions
- Four Community Health Centres and a network of 50 Multi-Skilled Community Health Workers in order to boost the demand for and promote greater utilization of RMNCH services in both Communes
All in all, it is estimated that over 30,000 women, men and children will be directly impacted by this project, which is implemented by L’ŒUVRE LÉGER, in collaboration with CCISD.
